My fiancee and I are thinking to take our honeymoon over the New Year in Morocco, visiting Marrakesh, the Atlas Mountains, Fez, maybe the coast, would like to do a desert trek, but probably not go to the far south. Is it alright that time of year, or too cold? We're not expecting baking heat or anything, just want to chill out, see some stuff, etc... but will find somewhere else if it's going to be miserable! Any clues? Thank you!

Morocco is GREAT! But you probably would want to stick to the south if you were to go in the winter....at least that is what it seems from the answers I got here: https://answersrip.com/question/index?qid=20070625142941AAYVvB8

it depends what your used to and what you are willing to put up with weather wise.

Anyway, you'll be on your honeymoon--I am sure you will find something to do to keep warm at night! ;)

best wishes

EDIT: By the way, I've seen sumankhs' other posts and she is anti-Muslim so it is no surprise she didn't like Morocco and would advise against it.

I second the recommendation to stick with the south in winter.

There is this GREAT resort about 30 km south of Agadir called Ksar Massa. I can't imagine a better place for a honeymoon than this resort. They do not allow hundreds of guests at a time. It is a bit private and so pretty.

Check out there site

Really I don't work there, lol, I just know it is a very nice resort and if it had been open when I got married I would of loved to stay there.

Taradount and Sahara excursions are within a reasonable distance away in my opinion.

My wife and I went to Morocco for our wedding anniversary (15th Jan) and had a great time. We did 5 nights in Marrakech www.darattajmil.com and 2 nights on the coast in Essaouira (Madada Mogador). It was great and we went back this year, and we'll probably make it an annual trip. It's warm during the day, can be chilly at night, and it might rain for parts of the week, but there are also clear skies, and any kind of sun feels good in January! It's not 'beach' hot though if that's what you're looking for, just pleasant.

Please note Marrakech is close to the desert and the temperatures rise to high temps in the day and get very cold at night. An example from the US would be Las Vegas.

As an example: today (July 2, 2007)

Hi: 95°

Lo: 66°

In January the average highs and lows:

Hi: 65° (very nice indeed with the sunshine)

Low: 44° (and it can feel COLD. Most hotels will not have heat and many no hot water)

I was there in June and although it got very hot in the daytime (when the stores are all closed anyway), the nights got chilly enough that I had to wear a jacket.

Congrats!

Marrakesh is really a city that sums up most of Morocco's unique North African charm, view it with hotelbye . The city's title provided the root for the title of the country it self, punctuation out this town's value down the ages. Within the bustle of the town key you'll find previous and new clashing and blending, which can make some tourists almost dizzy. Snake charmers and clean store touts both compete for your attention amid a loud, vivid bustle that encapsulates Morocco's vivid soul. For a lot of visitors, Marrakesh's labyrinth Medina (Old City) region is the town's star attraction. The slim alleyways really are a kaleidoscope of colours, scents and sounds. Is likely to be the sightseeing spotlight of one's journey; in addition to the simply wandering is meant to busy maze.

Fez is a unique destination, thousands of alleys seemingly lost in time, but winter is not the time to visit if you have a choice - which riads may have heating, it may not be sufficient, and evenings are cold (mid teens Deg C in the day) and winter months have an average of around 6.5cm of rain.

The further south the warmer it gets and Marrakech and south of the Anti Atlas region can be very pleasant (rather than hot) in the mid winter.

The High Atlas can be stunning in the winter, with snow capped mountains - hence they are chilly but I love them at that time of year (find accommodation with open fires and snuggle up).

The Atlantic coast (Essaouira/ Oualidia/ Agadir) aren't at their best mid winter, but it depends on what you like and again the further south you head the warmer it is.

Plenty of options mid winter even though in spring and summer Morocco as a whole is a fantastic place to visit.

Morocco is the closest exotic place to europe, it's just great to anytime of the year, specially on christmas...you will love it, avoid the big cities like casablanca and rabat, you don't need to come from one city to another similar, go to the agadir area or on the marrakech surroundings you will be amazed.

one piece of advice! Go for it you'll love.

The nights can be a bit chilly, but usually the weather is great during daytime.Besides there are so many things to do,so many monuments to see..:)

I LOVE MOROCCO,anytime of the year, each season has its own charm.

Congratulations and enjoy ur honeymoon :)

morocco is a nice place, visited and went on a tour. to be honest its more nice to go for 1-3 days and take a tour. first off its very dangerous so you would rather be with a tour group. second i would recomend somewhere else to go for a honeymoon. not that its a bad place i just think you would enjoy your honeymoon some where else. but its still a nice place, worth visisting. their also really expensive.

Great idea! Marrakesh is typically pleasant (50s Fahrenheit) in the winter, with little rain, but Fez and the Middle Atlas can be horrendous at that time. Personally, if I were you, I'd stick to the southern parts of the country, which will be quite nice at that time.

My advise is to choose another destination rather than Morroco. Believe me you will not regret it! I went there for a week and it isn't fun. Depending on where you reside and your budget, choosing somewhere more lively would be worth your while. I would definitely recommend Germany in July or if you'r a beach freak, visit Panama, Malta, Italy, etc... Wish you good fun and relaxation!
